Bikers Meet Botanicals: Kiehl’s Hosts Charity Event For HIV/AIDS Research

July 25, 2012

Kiehl’s, world renown for their premium skin, hair, body care and beauty essentials, hosted their annual LifeRide for amfAR charity event to a packed house at Lenox Square in Atlanta. Commemorating its third year, LifeRide is an annual charity motorcycle ride that helps to raise funds for amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research). This nine-day 1,800 mile journey from Miami, FL to Washington D.C. features a mixture of motorcycle enthusiasts and celebrity riders who “rev up” their Harley’s in support of this amazing endeavor. LifeRide combines Kiehl’s longtime love of motorcycles and spirit of adventure with the company’s philanthropic efforts to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS as well as furthering the research in combating this disease.

Lead by Kiehl’s USA President Chris Salgardo and amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost, this year’s crop of riders included actor John Corbett, and motorcycle enthusiasts Tricia Helfer, Gilles Marini, Katee Sackhoff, Teddy Sears, Christopher Redman, Marguerite Moreau, Timothy White, Paul Cox, Grant Reynolds, Conrad Leach and a host of others embarked on this extraordinary philanthropic journey that began in Miami, FL and culminated in Washington, D.C. in time for the International AIDS Conference. At each stop along the way Kiehl’s made donations totaling $90,000 and raised a whopping $115,000 towards amfAR and HIV/AIDS awareness efforts.

At the Atlanta stop, Collective Soul’s Ed Roland was in the house to welcome guests as the riders rolled into Kiehl’s Lenox Square location for a meet and greet before continuing on their eight stop route. Guests mixed, mingled, shopped, and seized photo ops with the riders while enjoying complimentary facials and Southern-inspired nibbles from Watershed on Peachtree’s Chef Joe Truex.

In celebration of the ride, Kiehl’s introduced a Limited Edition Active Lifestyle Essentials Kit ($74) which contains an assortment of Kiehl’s signature products for active customers. And in keeping with Kiehl’s long history of philanthropic efforts, the retailer is offering its patrons a chance to join the fight against HIV/AIDS by donating $25,000 from sales of their Active Lifestyle Essentials Kit to benefit amfAR. How fab is that!!! The Limited Edition Active Lifestyle Essentials Kit is available at Kiehl’s stores nationwide.

HIV/AIDS does affect us all, and I encourage everyone to support organizations like amfAR in their efforts to not only bring awareness to this life-threatening disease, but to eradicate it altogether.

To find out more about LifeRide, or to get involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS visit amfAR.org or Kiehls.com. Be sure to stop by Kiehl’s in Lenox Sqaure to pick up a Limited Edition Active Lifestyle Essentials Kit. Through your purchase you CAN make a difference!

A toast to those who helped make this occasion…

July 20, 2012

♫Get ready… Tonight! ♫
♫Gonna make this a night to remember! ♫

Well lovelies, my one year Blogiversary is officially in the books but I’m still floating somewhere between 7th Heaven and Cloud 9! When I look back on it all I must say that it’s been one heck of a fabulous ride! With all of the fun and fashion, meetups and tweetups, pampering and parties, shopping and socializing, it has definitely been an amazing year to say the least.

So just how did I usher in the celebration…with several of my BFF’s of course! The fabulous Keren Charles of Two Stylish Kays was also celebrating her Blogiversary too, and since we are blogging buddies it made perfect sense for us to celebrate this milestone together.

Keren Charles, Efie Lynn and Nikka Shae kickoff the celebration at Bloomingdale's

Oh! Nikka - Blogiversary at Bloomingdale's in Lenox SquareThe day’s festivities kicked-off at Bloomingdales in Lenox Square where Lancôme hosted a cosmetic and cocktail soiree for us with yummy sips from Skinny Girl Cocktails and private makeup sessions with the Lancôme team and International Makeup Artist Ricardo Costales. We had sooo much fun getting our makeup done at the event and you know we couldn’t let all that hauteness go to waste… so after our glamming session at Bloomies it was time to par-tay!

So, the stage was set as me along with Keren and 20 of our blog gal pals, converged on the ultra chic Salon Aamono at The 1016 Lofts in Atlanta. Brittany Allen, the owner of Salon Aamono, provided Keren and I with the perfect venue to host our sassy celebration. Our fabulous guests enjoyed light bites, wine, and cake pops by Popularity Sweets. DJ Mello kept the party rockin all night while Brittney with G.U.M. Productions live tweeted all of the fun. Now this might be a tad overdue but we would ALL like to send our sincerest apologizes to the good folks at Instagram and Twitter because I’m sure we crashed several of their servers that night from all of the tweeting and pic snapping. 😀

And speaking of Twitter-gate, 😀 here are just a few of the suspects, err umm, ladies who were responsible for the server crashes that night:

Now, no Tweetup would be complete without a few fab giveaways and swag bags, right! I absolutely love giveaway time, and several lucky ladies walked away with some very haute prizes such as Laura Mercier Body Lotion and Body Perfume, a Charming Charlie necklace, sassy tights from We Love Colors, hair care products from Beautiful Textures, a pair of uber-haute earrings from Salon Aamono, and much more!

Thanks to Carol’s Daughter at Lenox Square for providing the parting gifts. Glitz, glam, gifts, goodies, AND giveaways…What more could a girl ask for!

I was so honored to be surrounded by such an amazing and successful group of women who are doing their thang! Big hugs to you all for supporting both Oh! Nikka and Two Stylish Kays this past year… and I know that Keren would agree with me when I say that without your support we would not Be, for it’s You that inspires us To go on, and that’s the Be-You-T of it all! 😉

Thank you to Salon Aamono owner (and mane maven), Brittany Allen for hosting our shindig at her fabulous salon. We such an amazing time! When you get a chance, you must stop by Salon Aamono. You (and your hair) can thank me later! 😉

And last but certainly not least I want to thank my hubby Jason for supporting me through everything. I could not do this without his support, his patience, his understanding, and most importantly his love. Thank you babes… I love you so much!!!

So, as I close this chapter of Oh! Nikka I can’t help but look forward to all of the excitement ahead. I can assure you that it will be a fun-filled and fabulous journey. My only wish is that you will come along for the ride. 😉

A simply Spa-velous experience!

July 18, 2012

Lately I’ve been on a breakneck pace with event after event after event, and I’m in desperate need of some serious R&R. And not just any type of rest and relaxation either… I’m thinking of the kind of rejuvenation that consists of nothing less than being immersed in tranquility within the sanctuary of pampered decadence. Somewhere nestled in the hills of the Capri isles surrounded by wellsprings and waterways would surely suffice. But for those of us who desire a European spa experience less the transatlantic flight time and the burden of having to educate ourselves on foreign currency exchange rates, The Spa at Elaine Sterling Institute is definitely the place for you.

Located in Sandy Springs, the Spa at ESI is not only a full service day spa, but it’s also an esthetician school where students gain hands-on experience in a real-world spa setting. You see, the student estheticians are trained in an environment equipped using the latest in spa technology and they offer advanced skincare treatments that are substantially less than many spas around town.

The Spa at Elaine Sterling Institute

The Spa at Elaine Sterling Institute

Services on the menu include facials, skin treatments, chemical peels, clinical treatments, body treatments, tinting, waxing, makeup application, microdermabrasion, microcurrent, and back treatments. And if you desire a private pampering session with your besties, ESI provides spa packages for bridal parties and birthday gatherings for little divas-in-training.

So upon entering the spa I immediately sensed the calming ambiance that was serenaded by the trickling of water cascading down a huge carved stone water feature. Hues of soft blues with subtle accents of greens throughout, the decor was very tranquil and mood setting and I couldn’t wait to begin my session.

I opted for the Ultrasonic Skin Scrubber Facial ($45) which consists of a cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, steam, and massage. My esthetician Jennifer made me feel very comfortable as she walked me through each step of the procedure as well she explained the benefits of the treatment and the signature Elaine Sterling skincare products that she would be using. I was so relaxed after my facial that I’m sure I drifted off into lala-land a few times. So after I awoke it was time for my Collagen Eye Treatment ($15). This treatment firms and tightens the skin around the eyes leaving a very cooling and refreshing after effect; a much welcome delight to my tired eyes. I scored a sample of the treatment to take home that I can’t wait to use. Yeah!

I could definitely sense the passion and dedication by Jennifer and the staff with providing a top notch experience as evident by the level of professionalism and service that I received during my visit.

Thank you Maria for the invite! What an amazing spa experience that was simply spa-velous!!!

After my rejuvenating experience at the spa, I was ready to face the world and take on my next adventure as the Undercover Socialite! It goes without saying that first impressions are everything and the Spa at Elaine Sterling Institute has all of the essentials to make your next appearance a definite show stopper.

Lipstick and Blush and Makeup…Oh My!!!

July 14, 2012

Summer has officially descended upon Atlanta. And being that we’re only a few weeks into the season and already experiencing record breaking temperatures, the city has no doubt lived up to its much deserved nickname “HotLanta”. If you’ve ever lived in a hot and/or humid climate like Atlanta you know how difficult it is to maintain a fresh and flawless look when the heat is so unbearable that your makeup begins to channel the Wicked Witch of the West in her classic “I’m melting…” scene; and clicking your heels three times will not magically make things any better. Well fear not my Pretties, for there is an enchanted place in a not so far away mall that carries the perfect blend of cosmetics to battle the wicked summer heat, and you’ll be skipping down the yellow brick road to makeup merriment.

So as coincidences go; it was the official day of summer, I was celebrating my one year Blogiversary (YEAH!), and Lancôme was hosting a cosmetic and cocktails soiree at Bloomingdale’s in Lenox Square. International Makeup Artist (and Master Makeup Wizard) Ricardo Costales was scheduled to be in-house to offer one-on-one consultations along with Lancôme’s Top Team of makeup artists.  So off I went to see these makeup wizards work their magic during this limited engagement event that featured fabulous summer-ready cosmetics and much needed tips on how to look haute all summer long.

Guests of Bloomie’s Land enjoyed yummy sips from Skinny Girl Cocktails while indulging in their private makeup sessions with the Lancôme team. I was super excited about my personal makeup session with Ricardo Costales and could not wait to get started. So after I snapped out of my starstruck amazement it was time to begin.

Fab Oh! Lous! Celebrating the one year Blogiversary oh Oh! Nikka

First up was a prep session where Ricardo suggested using Lancôme’s Bienfait Aqua Vital Lotion ($45). This oil-free moisturizer helps to maintain the skins ideal moisture levels while eliminating that dreaded oily sheen that leaves your skin looking plastic. I have combination skin (oily and dry) so this product was perfect for me since it brings my skin to a happy balance.

Next was the foundation. I typically prefer a foundation that would help conceal all of the imperfections on my skin and leave it with a blemish-free appearance, so Ricardo suggested using Lancôme’s Teint Idole Ultra 24H ($44) which has 24-hour lasting coverage that would give me that flawless look throughout the day. This light yet smooth foundation also contains SPF 15 sunscreen which is essential for the summer sun.

Lancôme cosmetics

Ricardo then applied Lancôme’s Aplum Blush Subtil ($30) that I absolutely loved! It adds a wonderfully radiant look that would have Glinda the Good Witch of the North blushing with envy.

Up next was the eye candy. I wanted a sassy yet dramatic eye so Ricardo suggested using Lancôme’s Color Design Eye Shadow ($49) that gave me the effect I was looking for. 😉

Lancôme cosmetics

After all of the pampering and getting glammified I was definitely feeling like a super star, so it was only fitting that Ricardo suggested using the Tonight is My Night lipcolor from Lancôme’s Rouge in Love collection ($25) to complete the look. In case you didn’t know I consider myself to be the Connoisseur de Glosse’ and/or the Purveyor of Lip Paint simply because I’ve tried just about every lipstick brand on the market at some point. So needless to say I know a good lipstick when I try one, and this collection is by far one of the best. Not only does it wear for up to a whopping 6 hours, but its light feel and radiant color pallet offers the perfect balance.

Lancôme's Rouge in Love lipstick

Lancôme's Rouge in Love lipstick

Well, thanks to the insightful tips from Ricardo Costales and the Lancôme team I gained valuable knowledge on which makeup combinations work best for my skin, and the courage to step out into the summer sun without the fear of my makeup melting away. Oh, and after my rendezvous with Lancôme’s collection of lipcolors, I’d have to say that my heart is truly bursting with love!!!

Nikka Shae all glammed up in Lancôme's makeup

I had such a great time mixing and mingling with all of the lovely ladies who came out to Bloomie’s to indulge in the cosmetics, consultations and cocktails. I only wish that you were there… and You… and YOU too!

And, just like Dorothy profoundly suggests…

There’s no face like Lancôme. There’s no face like Lancôme… There’s no face like Lancôme…

Glitz meets Glam as Swarovski’s Sparkle Tour dazzled at Lenox Square

July 10, 2012

Lenox Square’s Swarovski boutique showcased their limited edition jewelry collection, and let me tell you that these pieces definitely made a statement. Swarovski Stylist Terri Sandblom was on hand to share insider fashion tips along with the hautest looks for the season, as guests sipped on bubbly champagne and yummy cupcakes while being dazzled by a sparkling collection of jewels unlike any other. These pieces were absolutely gorgeous! We got a taste of some of the jewels on display which consisted of beautiful bangles, breathtaking broaches, fabulous rings, lovely watches, yummy earrings, cute clutches, and jaw dropping necklaces, Oh My!

Guest showing off a few pieces from Swarovski's Raphaela Collection

Terri describes the collection as ‘bold statement pieces’ and I must say that the Raphaela Necklace ($1500) she was wearing definitely made its point… straight into my heart! 😉 Terri went on to explain that this collection is special because these pieces can be worn with any outfit creating many unique looks. Whether you don it atop an elegant gown or as an accessory to your business-wear, these pieces would add sparkle to any outfit.

Swarovski's sparkling collection of jewels

Hmmm… I can think of a few fabulous looks that would complement several of these pieces, but I have my heart set on this cute Sleeveless Lace Sheath Dress from INC at Macy’s ($99.50) that would be the perfect complement to Swarovski’s Ribbon Necklace ($830). I’d pair it with a Swarovski Rhum Bracelet ($160) and Rhum Pierced Earrings ($140), and complete the look with a haute pair of Cheatham heels ($48.99) from Aldo. Oh, and I’d also get ready for several instances of whiplash. 😀

But if you just want a simple piece to start off with Swarovski’s Nirvana Ring Collection is the perfect choice. They have a lot of pop and also come in a rainbow of colors to choose from. These rings are definitely a conversation piece, and you can wear them with just about anything.

So, now that you’ve gotten your Swarovski sparkle, you can set off a few fireworks of your own! 😉
